Travelers still face these COVID-19 restrictions in Bermuda

COVID-19 hit the world like nothing we’ve ever experienced. While life in the U.S. is returning to a more normal experience, that’s not the case in Bermuda.

COVID-19 forced the tiny island country into shutdown mode for more than two years. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention lists Bermuda at a high COVID-19 level as of July 7, 2022.

While it’s slowly beginning to reopen, things have not returned to pre-pandemic life.

It’s also one of the handful of locations where NCL cruise passengers will continue to be required to provide negative COVID-19 tests before sailing.

What to expect on an NCL cruise during COVID-19

Bermuda also requires tourists to continue to apply, and be accepted, before entering the country.

MASKS

Masks are REQUIRED in almost all indoor areas.

If you don’t wear a mask into stores, you will be told to leave.

Don’t want to wear a mask? You won’t be able to board any of Bermuda’s public buses.

You’ll also need to wear a mask to disembark a cruise ship and walk through the cruise terminal.

SANITIZER

If you decide to ride a public bus in Bermuda, you will also be required to use hand sanitizer before boarding.

How to Apply to Travel to Bermuda

There is a bottle next to the container where you drop your fare on each bus.

Restaurants and businesses also have bottles of hand sanitizer for you to use as soon as you enter.

BUSINESSES

Bermuda’s been hit incredibly hard by COVID-19. Just like in the U.S., restaurants and businesses closed. Business that thrived relying on tourists no longer exist.

If there is a specific restaurant or store you want to visit, I’d suggest contacting it first to make sure it’s still open.

Other restaurants and businesses may have shorter or different hours.

Restaurant servers told me they are working 18 hour shifts. They are needed now that tourists are beginning to return to Bermuda, but also continue to get COVID.

TOURS AND ATTRACTIONS

Bermuda’s Tourism Bureau told me things are just now beginning to reopen. That includes many tours and excursions.

How to Visit Bermuda’s Horseshoe Bay

We went to the tourism location in Hamilton and asked how to spend several hours in the city. Unfortunately we were told there still weren’t a lot of options available.

The good news is that Bermuda’s beautiful beaches are open for tourists and the general public.

If you’re looking for a lot of fun in the sun, Bermuda is calling, just keep in mind that things may not be completely back to normal.
