Gunther Motor Company ranked the most expensive states for road trips earlier this summer, based on things like the average road trip distance, price of gas, and the most popular car in each state.

While the study was done when many states had a average gas price over $5, I used data from AAA to refigure costs. According to the update, here are the most expensive states for Labor Day road trips in 2022.

Cheapest States for Labor Day Road Trips
With the price of gas dropping, there are some cheaper states to explore.
According to AAA, you’ll want to stick to areas in the southern part of the country. States from Oklahoma and Texas through Georgia and South Carolina have prices that average under $3.50 a gallon for regular unleaded gasoline.
