It’s Time to Weigh in on size of Airline Seats

Washington — The worst part of a vacation is sometimes getting there.

Cramming yourself into a cramped airline seat for hours isn’t something anyone dreams of when planning a trip.

Now you can actually do something about it.

The Federal Aviation Administration is asking travelers to share their experiences and thoughts on the size of airline seats.

Those seats have gotten smaller over the years as airlines work to fit more passengers on every flight.

Those smaller seats aren’t just lacking in comfort. They can also pose a risk for larger passengers and travelers with different accessibility needs.

The FAA requires planes to be evacuated in seconds in the case of an emergency. That simply may not be possible for someone with special needs, or a taller or larger person.

Congress has told the FAA to establish minimum seat diminutions for airplanes.

The FAA is turning to the people who spend hours sitting in those seats for their thoughts.

The agency is accepting public comments about the issue through the end of October 2022.

Submit your comments by going to the Federal Register.
