How to Visit Bermuda’s Horseshoe Bay

Horseshoe Bay is on numerous “Best Beaches” lists. If you’ve visited, you know why!

If you haven’t visited yet, you’re in the right spot. From how to get to Horseshoe Bay, to what’s available when you arrive, read on for everything you need to know about one of the most beautiful beaches on the planet.

First things first, Horseshoe Bay is easy to get to, has the finest and softest pink-hued sand, and the clearest turquoise water.

Getting There

Bermuda is a small country. There are several ways you can reach Horseshoe Bay.

Shuttle: The shuttles are 10-person vans. A shuttle from Dockyard to Horseshoe Bay is $7 a person to get there and $7 a person to get back to King’s Warf, so $14 per person roundtrip.

How to Apply to Travel to Bermuda

A shuttle driver was holding a sign as soon as we walked out of the cruise terminal.

You’ll be dropped off as close to Horseshoe Bay as possible. Leaving the beach, you’ll walk back to the point where the driver dropped you off and a shuttle will be waiting to take you back to your starting point.

Taxi: A taxi is more expensive than a shuttle, but also customizable.

For example if you need to make a stop at a store for sunscreen, your taxi driver will likely be able to keep the meter running while you run inside and make a purchase.

In comparison a taxi from King’s Warf to Horseshoe Bay is $42 each way, or $84 roundtrip. You’ll be able to fit 6 or 7 people inside the larger taxis.

Bus: A public bus will be the cheapest way to reach Horseshoe Bay.

Depending on how much you plan to explore, a 1-day bus pass is $19 a person.

You can also buy a ticket that will take you just to Horseshoe Bay and another ticket to take you back to your starting point. The price will depend on how many stops you plan to make.

Twizy: Tourists can’t rent cars in Bermuda, but you can rent something called a Twizy.
The tiny electric vehicles are your most expensive option, but also give you the most freedom to explore.

There are several different types available. In each one the single passenger sits behind the driver. The car fits 2 people, but is only about 4-feet wide.

Arrival

If you take a shuttle or taxi to Horseshoe Bay, you’ll be dropped off at a wide sidewalk that will take you straight to the beach.

On the way you’ll pass the public restrooms. They are open to the public, but keep in mind they get busy!

Food and Beverages

Horseshoe Bay Live is next to the restrooms. It’s a bar that also serves an assortment of foods like onion rings, chicken wings, and chicken fingers.

How to Cruise During Hurricane Season

There is also a beverage menu that includes soda, beer, alcoholic and nonalcoholic cocktails and frozen drinks like margaritas.

You can order a beer or water bucket with ice at the bar and take it down to the beach too.

Beach goers are allowed to take drinks and food from the bar to the beach area, but make sure your trash ends up in one of the trash cans placed around the beach.

Chair, Umbrella Rentals

I’m still shocked that this beautiful beach is free to enjoy. While there is no entry fee, you will pay to rent a chair and umbrella.

Beach chairs and umbrellas are available to rent. Each costs $10 … so $30 for 2 chairs and an umbrella.

You are also allowed to bring coolers to the beach, but pets are not allowed.

Lifeguards

There are lifeguards on duty at Horseshoe Bay during certain hours.

Look at the lifeguard tower. If you see a flag, a lifeguard is on duty. If no flag is displayed lifeguards are not on duty.

Horseshoe Bay is the #1 beach in Bermuda to visit, at least on my list. I hope you enjoy your visit!
