DALLAS — Southwest Airlines is known for it’s Wanna Get Away fares and free flights for bags. Now the airline wants to be known for something else too.
Southwest announced a new fare Tuesday. It’s called Wanna Get Away Plus and will be slightly more expensive than the airline’s popular Wanna Get Away prices, but not as much as its Anytime fares.
The airline said the new fare comes with all the perks travelers love, plus transferable flight credit.
That means if you need to cancel your flight, you can transfer your flight credit to someone else who also has a Rapid Rewards account. They have up to 12 months from the original booking date to use the credit.
Plus also allows same-day change options, allowing passengers to catch an earlier or later flight to the same destination, for free.
You’ll also earn eight-points for every dollar spent on your flight.
According to Southwest, the company doesn’t plan on doing away with it’s most popular Wanna Get Away fare, and it’s also added more perks to its Anytime and Business Select fares.
The new fare comes just days after Southwest announced plans to upgrade inflight Wi-Fi, expand free entertainment options, and add power ports to all of its seats.
Southwest Airlines said it’s also working to improve customer service and other options. The company wants to get to the point where customers are able to do almost everything they need online before reaching airports.
What do you think? Do you plan to pay the higher airfare in order to get some extra flexibility for your next vacation?
