New Tool May Help You Find Cheaper Flights

As temperatures heat up outside, so do summer vacation plans. But this year, travelers may be in for some sticker shock.

The Adobe Digital Economy Index tracks data on US domestic flight bookings and prices. When the report was released in March of 2022, it found airfare was 20% higher this year than in 2019.

It also predicted that the change is so dramatic, airfare prices are dictating where travelers go and how they get there.

But here’s something that may help.

NetCredit, an online loan company, just published a list showing which airports and states are the cheapest for domestic flights. It also has a free interactive tool that allows travelers to select an airport. The results will show you how prices at the airport compare to others across the country.

The site said it analyzed data from the Bureau of Transportation Statistics to identify the average cost of flights, as well as nearby airports offering cheaper routes. The company also said it balanced ticket prices against salaries to see which states have the most affordable flights.

According to the ranking, New Jersey is the cheapest state to fly out of with an average domestic flight price of $205.60. It also found that with an average ticket price of $110, Atlantic City International Airport is the cheapest airport in the U.S.

Those prices compare to an average price of more than $300 a flight to fly out of Newark Liberty International Airport.

Florida comes in as the second-cheapest state on the list, and is also home to half of report’s top 10 cheapest airports in the U.S.

HOW TO EASILY NAVIGATE CANCUN’S AIRPORT

My home airport, Kansas City International, is stuck right in the middle of the U.S. Due to it’s location the report found the average price for a flight is nearly $321, and it comes in at No. 77 on the list. However, Lambert Airport in St. Louis is only slightly cheaper with an average flight price of $311. Springfield-Branson’s flight averages are even more expensive.

The cost of gas to drive across the state doesn’t make changing airports a deal for me, but I’ll likely also do a quick check of airfare at both airports for future flights.

This new tool isn’t necessarily the answer to finding cheaper airfare, but it’s another option to use to help you get there.

What’s the cheapest flight you’ve booked recently?
