How to Get a COVID-19 Test While Visiting Mexico

Anyone traveling to the U.S. is required to get a COVID-19 test before boarding a plane, even if you’re already vaccinated.

If you’re staying at a hotel, the test result has to be negative before you’re allowed to leave the resort.

The test can’t be administered more than 3 days before you fly to the U.S.

Trying to get a test isn’t an issue in most tourist hotspots, including Cancun.

The larger resorts offer on-site testing and schedule your test the day you check into the hotel.

Even if your hotel doesn’t offer COVID-19 testing, sites aren’t difficult to find. Your hotel can direct you to the nearest site. There are also locations with signs offering tests along Blvd. Kukulcan, one of the main streets through Cancun.

You’ll want to check to see what the price is, and if you need an appointment, or if you can just show up.

The process is very similar to getting a test in the U.S.

  • Arrive at the site
  • Fill out a short survey, with your email (Make sure you can access your email, because your results will be sent to the address you provide)
  • Sit down and a tech will swab your nose

That’s it! Again, your results will be sent to your email.

Don’t delete your test results! You’ll need to show proof of the negative test before agents will let you check in at the airport, and again before you go through security.

Keep in mind that the test can’t be administered more than 3 days before your flight to the U.S..
