Need a vacation?
Quit procrastinating and start planning!
January 30th is National #PlanForVacation Day.
The day is a push from the travel industry to get you to start planning your vacations for the rest of the year.
The idea came from Project: Time Off. It’s an organization that works to show how important vacation is for the overall health of Americans.
According to a 2014 study for Project: Time Off, conducted by GfK, 41% of Americans didn’t plan on using all of their vacation days. Reasons varied from fear of job loss to workers believing they were too busy, to financial strains.
The good news is that it looks like views may be changing.
According to a more recent study by GfK for Project: Time Off, the average worker used more vacation time in 2016. The organization says it’s the biggest jump since 2000.
TV Travel Host Samantha Brown adds that Americans let a total of more than 659 million paid vacation days go unused every year.
Think of all the places you could go with that vacation time!
If you need a few ideas, Brown has a new travel show on PBS called “Places to Love.”
In it Brown promotes Project: Time Off and says, “there is no perfect time” to travel.
The companies backing National #PlanForVacation Day hope you agree.
Search the hashtag and you’ll find hundreds of hotels and festivals offering ideas on how to spend you time off.
If Iceland is on your bucket list, check out Grayline.com. The site is offering 10% off tours booked by January 31st.
Alamo is offering 10% off weekly car rental rates when you book by February sixth. Other restrictions may apply.
There’s no time like now to start planning for some time doing what you love.
Katie Denis, chief of research and strategy at Project: Time Off says, “Americans who want to use more of their vacation time can put themselves in a better position to do so by planning ahead.”
